I met with Mark’s psychiatrist today. This is the first time he’s had one. She is trying to help him with his anxiety and his need to “fix” things.
“Did you know that YOU are getting anxious?” she asked me. “You’re trying to fix everything. You are anticipating every WHAT IF and considering what you would do, before things even happen, things that might not happen. Just remember that you don’t have to have all of the answers.”
She was insightful, and I will try to learn from what she’s saying. But I also realize that it’s these kickass, protective survival instincts that help moms keep our most vulnerable alive and thriving.
I don’t have the luxury of just relaxing, do I?
Things seem to go wrong when I do.
