My gift for Mark on his 23rd birthday is to find a way to get him there with reading. He knew a lot of on-grade level phonics and sight words when he was little, but there were always so many skills he needed to address that this skill got ignored.
Now he seems ready!
Mark’s a problem-solving man-bear with a lot of practical reading on the iPad and from menus, and I’ve reached out to someone who was involved in Mark’s teen years with a list of apps I found. The autism expert recommended Endless Reader or ASD Reading.
I don’t see weekends as being enough time for him to learn, and his enrichment day program cannot teach academics — but I don’t see a reason they can’t direct some of his time to using apps that will be instructional.
Wish Mark luck! I think this skill will greatly increase his confidence, maturity, and life skills.
