Know Where to Look

I finally did it! I broke down and ordered Mark adaptive clothing. I simply have not found any pants that fit his current size and shape as well as his fine motor skills. He can do belts, snaps, hook and eye, and so on, but only athletic pants fit him properly around the middle. However, they don't fit the school's dress code.
Why did I do it? I might have ignored the shortcomings of his current pairs of pants if it were up to me, but the school principal came up to the car today. Our casual chat took a more serious turn.
"Mark might need a new size pants," she said. "Sometimes we get a peek."
If she only knew the lengths I've gone to find something that works! If she only knew my frustration and embarrassment! If she only knew my sense of failure that I haven't taught him how to button or how to slim down!
But at the end of the day he can't go to school looking like a plumber.
Wish us luck with the new brand. If they don't work, I guess I'll buy him suspenders.
Sometimes I get so busy trying to create the world my son needs that I miss the places where others have already created it.
