After having read the memoir, all I can say is "Wow!" I think any parents dealing with a child who faces challenges of Mark's nature will read this and nod their heads, grateful that someone understands them and their frustrations...

Elaine Markowitz

I can’t believe I have never met Mark, because I feel as if I know him from all of Shary’s beautifully-written stories. She is unabashedly honest and raw, telling the good and bad, the beautiful and the painful. Shary openly tells every truth of raising an incredibly complex, remarkable, disabled son. I love Mark, and I love Shary for introducing him to my life.

Frances Fischer

Shary’s remarkable ability to convey the profound and challenging journey of raising a child with disabilities is truly awe-inspiring. Through her words, she manages to capture the raw and often difficult aspects of this experience while making it accessible for those who may not have lived through it themselves.

About Shary Taylor Gentry

IMG_6627.HEIC

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania four minutes before her sister, Shary Taylor Gentry  grew up on the West Coast of Florida, where she met her husband, John, in high school. Initially, he found her bookish but took notice after she asked him to light her bunsen burner in chemistry class.  Shary taught traditional, gifted, and learning-disabled middle and high school students in both rural and urban settings in North Carolina and Texas. Her most interesting student is her adult son, Mark, who is on the autism spectrum, and her most inspiring teacher is her daughter, Ali, Harvard-trained lawyer and disability rights advocate. Mark and Ali inspire Shary to tell stories that matter.
